Brrr.. It’s Cold Outside.
Oh yes, that must mean that Mr. Winter is here. Whenever I think about winter I remember one song from my childhood days… It’s raining; it’s boring the old man is snoring. Today there is no reason to be bored anymore. Technology has made it possible for kids all over the world to stay huddled up in bed watching movies and playing videos games all day long.
I think not, I wish for kids all over the world to have days with endless play and multiple adventures. Remember twister? Yes, that super twisty game where you had to put your left foot through someone’s right leg to get to the yellow dot.

Parents get so caught up in the living of live that we forget to actually live our lives with our kids. Good old fashioned play has been exchanged for iPad’s and cellular phones. Take the time and trade it up for some card games or even a fun-filled family day out. Explore the world. Your kids won’t remember that time they watched Paw Patrol season 2 episodes 5. Your kids will remember that time you made a bon-fire in the backyard and roasted marshmallow to make sweet, sweet smores dipped in chocolate.
Playing is a fundamental part of a child’s in order to grow and explore their own abilities. As said by Einstein “Playing is the highest form of research”. Playing is where we teach our little bugz to become archaeologist and artists and pilots. Grab a hold of the building blocks and help your little construction bug to build a house for his dinosaurs. Dad, please join your little girl for a high tea in the living room this winter.

No more videogames and repeat movies, our kids want to play and we need to help them learn through play. Here are a few suggestions:
- build a fort in the living room and camp inside while it pours down with rain
- get out that deck of cards and teach your kids snap, they will love kicking adult-butt
- grab some Styrofoam blocks and build a snowman or an igloo
- take the kids for an out ride to see the snow
- make your own family play complete with costumes
There are hundreds of ways to entertain the kids all throughout winter on the weekends and school holiday, we can use the internet for some good and look up cool ideas about. Times have changed so much that it is almost impossible to have stay-at-home-moms. This means we need to find ways to connect with our kids and to learn about them as much as they learn about us. Take a Saturday and do some art and craft projects you don’t have to be any good at it, it’s just about taking the time to do something special with your child. Here are some easy art and craft projects you can make with things around the house:
- make a penguin from toilet rolls
- build a snowman from pine cones
- make a bouncy ball
- find some old rocks to paint

My absolute favourite winter activity is baking. Who does not love a warm chocolate nutty brown of some fresh out the oven ginger biscuits, its a little more effort than buying them in the shop but who knows you might be really good at it.
So there you have it moms and dads, tons of ideas to pass time this winter, no more excuses on weekends, it’s time to raise some adventurers. Make some hearts warm this winter and have loads of indoorsy fun!
